HOW TO PLAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY: SOLO GUITAR OR WITH A BAND

If you play guitar, chances are you will be asked to play Happy Birthday at some point. If you know a few cowboy chords and the basics of reading standard music notation, the simple chart below will help you become the hit of the party.

But what if you want to do both yourself, or what if you want to play Happy Birthday with your band and add solo sections so the tune is fun to play and the audience can really get into it?

In this tutorial video, I demonstrate and explain a few different arrangements for Happy Birthday so it "stands alone," and I also included an arrangement for your band to play (because at some point, your band will be asked to play Happy Birthday, and you don't want to let your audience down!)

Let's get to some chord melody basics, reharmonization techniques, playing in 3rds and 4ths... and maybe a few more ideas that are new to you.
